5 Things Veterans Should Know Before Their First VA-Referred Chiropractic Visit
If you're a veteran dealing with back pain, neck pain, headaches, or an old service-related injury that just won't quit, there's a good chance you already qualify for chiropractic care through the VA — and it may cost you nothing out of pocket.
At Revival Chiropractic, we're proud to be an in-network provider with the VA Community Care Network (CCN) here in Colorado. A lot of veterans don't realize this benefit exists, or assume it comes with a mountain of paperwork and a copay. Here's what you actually need to know before your first visit.
1. Chiropractic care is a covered CCN benefit — and often has no copay
The VA's Community Care Network exists so veterans can get care from trusted providers in their own community when it's not readily available at the VA, or when a VA provider recommends it. Chiropractic care for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and musculoskeletal injuries falls squarely within that benefit. For most veterans, there's no copay or coinsurance for CCN-authorized chiropractic visits — the VA covers it.
2. You can't just walk in — it starts with a referral from your VA provider
This is the part that trips people up. Chiropractic care under CCN doesn't work like scheduling a regular appointment. It has to start with your VA primary care provider. They'll evaluate whether community care makes sense for you — based on things like how far you are from a VA facility, wait times, or whether the service is available in-house — and if it does, they submit the referral.
The simple version: ask your VA provider directly for a referral to community chiropractic care, and ask for Revival Chiropractic by name.
3. Colorado veterans go through TriWest
The VA's CCN is split into five regions, each run by a different administrator. Colorado falls under Region 4, which is managed by TriWest Healthcare Alliance. Once your VA provider submits the referral, it routes through TriWest, which is what actually authorizes and coordinates your visits with us. If you're doing any of your own research or calling in to check on status, TriWest is the name you'll want to reference.
4. Most common service-related conditions qualify
You don't need a dramatic injury story to qualify. Some of the most common reasons veterans come in through CCN include:
- Chronic low back pain
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Tension and cervicogenic headaches
- Old service-related musculoskeletal injuries that flare up over time
- General joint and spine discomfort affecting daily activity
If any of that sounds familiar, it's worth bringing up at your next VA appointment.
5. Once the referral is in place, we handle the rest
Our job is to make this easy on you. Once your VA provider submits the referral and TriWest authorizes it, our team coordinates directly with them on the administrative side — scheduling, documentation, and communication — so you can just show up and focus on getting better. No forms to chase down, no guesswork.
